This is the second course in the Social Life of English specialisation.
LAS and TCS students who follow this course as part of the core curriculum of their major, need to complete a compulsory preparation course/assignment. See for more information: https://tcs.sites.uu.nl/
Early Exit option for international exchange students (5 ECTS)
Exchange students who are required to return to their home university before January, are allowed to choose an Early Exit option for this course. The Early Exit option means that students can finish the course before Christmas break, receiving 5 ECTS for the course. Students must make arrangements with the course coordinator at the start of the course.

Toelichting
Lectures and tutorials will be interactive requiring participation in games and embodied performances as practice-based research for understanding key course concepts.
Bijdrage
Students will be provided with the opportunity to conduct their research in a group and to write and present about it in a group.
Voorbereiding
Students will be required to study the relevant material before class, participate in class activities and discussions, prepare written expercises, conduct an ethnographic research project and to present it orally and in written form. There will also be an oral exam.

Excellent command of academic English in speaking and writing. Basic knowledge of English phonetics and concepts from general linguistics.
