Data Analytics for Sustainability (2023/2024: Periode 2)
Cursusdoel
After completing the course, students can:
- Translate sustainability issues into a data-oriented question and identify the correct methods and tools to treat the question.
- Understand and explain different data analysis methods and tools.
- Apply R & Python script languages and associated libraries to process data from different formats, visualise and conduct a data-driven analysis.
- Derive and report practical implications of the data-driven research.
- Create impactful materials to communicate to decision-makers.
Vakinhoudelijk
The aim of this course is to provide students with state-of-the-art programming methods and tools to analyse different types of data frequently encountered when working on sustainability issues. Using open-source programming tools (R & Python), the students will learn how to treat, visualise and analyse data from a variety of sources. Different modules with specific foci (Programming, GeoSpatial data, Text Mining, and Energy System Modelling) are offered in this course. Each of these modules focuses on its own, domain-specific advanced data analysis techniques. Knowledge about programming and statistics is highly recommended for this course.
Students will first choose between Programming and Geospatial Data for their first module. The second choice will be between Text Mining and Energy System Modelling for their second module. By choosing topics of their interest, students can build their own portfolio of data analysis competencies.
