Research Design II RMA Gender
Cursusdoel
A) is well versed in conducting interdisciplinary feminist research at the Research MA level;
B) has learned to present the gained knowledge in both written and oral form;
C) has the capacity to carry through original research as presented in the research proposal and to present results from the RMA thesis project;
D) has gained expertise in doing (empirical) research in Gender Studies, applied in the RMA thesis.
Vakinhoudelijk
This interdisciplinary module continues to covers advanced academic skills to be developed at the Research Master level, such as refinement of acquired research methodologies, writing of academic texts (e.g., chapters of thesis, journal articles or conference papers), presenting original research and giving academic feedback to peers. The seminar aims to offer a research environment in which students can reflect on their research topic at a meta-discursive level, with special emphasis placed on methodological issues and theoretical perspectives. This course also helps students in their future careers by learning to communicate their research findings in both academic and non-academic contexts and to increase the societal significance of their research. This seminar also serves as a productive discussion space in which RMA and GEMMA students can connect with one another on academic issues and challenges.

Students acquire skills to orient themselves in the future academic/research job-market. They learn:
- how to present their research findings in academic and non-academic environments;
- how to engage practically in societal relevant research;
- how to build academic and professional networks;
- how to engage in peer review processes.
Werkvormen
Toelichting
The course is a 'lintmodule' for blocks 3 and 4, and takes place once every two weeks. In each session some of the students present a (draft) chapter of their thesis or a conference paper, and pre-assigned respondents provide oral feedback. Other issues related to thesis writing and time management are also addressed in the seminar, and invited experts on the matter also visit the seminar.
Bijdrage
Students are required to read each other's work in progress, provide feedback, and actively engage in discussion.
Voorbereiding
Students are required to engage with the materials (readings of peers' produced texts) for each session, attend class, complete written assignments.
