International and Transnational Crimes (2025/2026: Semester 2 – Spring)
Course aim
- Explain the difference between international and transnational crimes.
- Develop critical understanding of the application of international criminal law, and of the future international criminal justice.
- Demonstrate knowledge of debates and jurisprudence developed around the elements of core international crimes (genocide, aggression, war crimes, and crimes against humanity).
- Understand and discuss the rights of victims and the accused in international criminal courts.
- Understand and discuss the main modes of liability for core international crimes.
- Demonstrate an understanding of approaches to defining and studying the structure of organized crime groups and their involvement in different types of transnational crimes (drug trafficking, human trafficking, corruption, and money laundering).
- Describe and elaborate upon aspects of international cooperation in the application of justice in investigating and prosecuting international crimes.
- Write papers containing an extensive literature review and/or case study.
- Demonstrate ability to formulate legal arguments based on relevant international criminal legal sources, both orally and in writing
- Communicate legal arguments orally and written in a clear and persuasive fashion
- Use and apply international criminal law as a tool to resolve injustice and transform the aftermath of a conflict
