Cursusdoel

After successfully completing the course, students:

· are able to identify the different parts of a BA thesis and know which criteria these parts must meet.
· are able to find, select and assess relevant academic sources for their own research.
· are able to formulate and operationalize an appropriate research question.
· can understand and compare different research methods for their developed research question.
· can identify and assess the ethical aspects of scientific research.
· are able to develop and follow an appropriate timeline for completion of their thesis.
· are able to design and execute a meaningful thesis proposal that demonstrates academic and critical thinking and uses the knowledge and skills learned while in the BA program.
· will better understand the connection between the knowledge and skills students have acquired in their BA program with career and further educational possibilities.

Vakinhoudelijk

This course revisits essential research approaches and methods introduced in basic packages, laying the groundwork for students to undertake their BA thesis. In addition to reinforcing key research methodologies, students craft a research proposal essential for their concluding paper, as outlined in the course objectives. Throughout the course, students engage with sample final papers, honing their skills in applying and reflecting on the pertinent assessment criteria emphasized throughout the course.

The report consists of a proposal for the BA thesis which demonstrates the student’s ability to perform preliminary research on a thesis topic of their choice and present that research, together with a research plan for writing the thesis, in a scholarly manner. The portfolio will consist of a collection of work demonstrating mastery of the programme- and specialty-specific knowledge and skills necessary to move forward in writing a BA thesis and pursue various post-graduate options.
