Cursusdoel
After completing this course students are able to:
- Summarise the main anatomical, physiological and pathophysiological aspects of six major organ systems of the human body, through presentations, essays and discussions.
- Analyse the signs and symptoms that indicate failing of normal human physiologic processes.
- Demonstrate clinical reasoning based on pathophysiologic disease concepts and establish a diagnosis in a hypothetical patient.
- Discuss and interpret social determinants of health that contribute to human diseases
- Written in-class exam 1: to test your knowledge and ability to discuss and analyze, anatomical, physiological, and pathophysiological aspects of gastrointestinal disease manifestations (course goals 1 to 4).
- Written in-class exam 2: to test your knowledge and ability to discuss and analyze, anatomical, physiological, and pathophysiological aspects of cardiovascular disease manifestations (course goals 1 to 4).
- Written in-class exam 3: to test your knowledge and ability to discuss and analyze, anatomical, physiological, and pathophysiological aspects of respiratory disease manifestations (course goals 1 to 4).
- Written in-class exam 4: to test your knowledge and ability to discuss and analyze, anatomical, physiological, and pathophysiological aspects of renal, and urinary tract disease manifestations (course goals 1 to 4).
- Written in-class exam 5: to test your knowledge and ability to discuss and analyze anatomical, physiological, and pathophysiological aspects of endocrine disease manifestations (course goals 1 to 4).
- Written in-class essay: to test your analytical, critical thinking and reasoning skills related to a reproductive health topic, including the incorporation of ethical, moral, legal, global and public health arguments (course goal 4)
- Presentation in-class on anatomical, and physiological aspects of a major organ system of the human body and mechanisms of human diseases (course goals 1 to 3)
- Active participation during in-class discussions and case study activities, together with personal feedback from the instructor (course goals 1 to 4)

UCSCIBIO11 Molecular Cell Biology I is highly recommended but can also be taken alongside MED21. In that case, ask for course admittance. UCSCIBIO13 Human and Animal Biology must be passed with at least a D average for the two exams in the course.
