Vakinhoudelijk
The following students are guaranteed a place:
- BA TCS or LAS;
- students who are registered for the minor Postcolonial Studies;
- pre-master’s students;
- exchange students.
The course engages with main postcolonial and decolonial theories and ongoing debates, in the study of the intersections of gender, racial construction, and cultural practices. Particular emphasis is placed on introducing and making use of key conceptual tools for analyzing contemporary intersections between the “postcolonial” and the social vectors of gender, race, ethnicity, class, and culture. Particularly, the course examines postcolonial global realities and decolonial stances, paying close attention to postcolonial configurations of the social and political terrains, as well as the ways in which artistic and cultural production has engaged with these shifts. In the analysis of such theoretical interventions and cultural practices, issues pertaining to social inequalities and cultural representation and appropriation will be discussed via theoretical texts as well as audio-visual material (movies, documentaries, TV series).
This course is part of the minor Postcolonial Studies, for more information about this minor see: https://students.uu.nl/en/academics/minors/postcolonial-studies
